Lumière $50 Book Blast

Lumiere
Lumière by Jacqueline E. Garlick
One determined girl. One resourceful boy. One miracle machine that could destroy everything… After an unexplained flash shatters her world, seventeen-year-old Eyelet Elsworth sets out to find the Illuminator, her father’s prized invention. With it, she hopes to cure herself of her debilitating seizures before Professor Smrt—her father’s arch nemesis—discovers her secret and locks her away in an asylum. Pursued by Smrt, Eyelet locates the Illuminator only to see it whisked away. She follows the thief into the world of the unknown, compelled not only by her quest but by the allure of the stranger—Urlick Babbit—who harbors secrets of his own. Together, they endure deadly Vapours and criminal-infested woods in pursuit of the same goal, only to discover the miracle machine they hoped would solve their problems may in fact be their biggest problem of all. When darkness is safer than light…
Praise “One of the most inventive story worlds I’ve read in years…” Donald Maass, Author of Writing the Breakout Novel, Writing 21st Century Fiction, and The Fire in Fiction
“Such an engaging story featuring witty dialogue, gripping action scenes and a romance that will make your heart melt!” Laurel May
“I liked the mix of reminders I got from authors like Mervyn Peake, L.Frank Baum and Ray Bradbury. I'm sure that every reader will find shades of other famous writers, including or excluding these three.” Richard L. Bunning
“Eyelet and Urlick, the two main characters... There's so much to love! They are like salt and pepper: totally different, spicy, argumentative, and brilliantly smart.” Rosemary Danielis
Excerpt From Lumière:
“Wait!” I shout, surging forward, shouldering my way through the crowd. I fight my way to the front and pound on the doors of the carriage. “Please!” I shout. “I need to speak to you!” But the stranger doesn’t hear. He brings his whip down hard over his horse’s back and the carriage leaps forward, parting the angry crowd like soil in a furrowed field. “Wait!” I hoist my skirts and chase after the carriage. “Please!” I shout. “Please! Wait!” A second crack of the whip and the carriage moves faster. I race on, struggling to keep up to its side. If I lose sight of the carriage, I’ve lost everything. All hope of ever leading a normal life. I can’t let that happen. Won’t let that happen. He will not take my father’s machine. “Please, I beg you, stop the coach!” I lunge, throwing myself at the back of the coach, barely catching a toe on the edge of the running boards, embedding my nails into the carriage’s seams. The carriage bursts forward through the streets of Gears, the city fast becoming a memory. “Stop!” I plead as my boot slips from the running boards. I swing out to one side and dangle by one arm. The stranger at the mount turns his head. “What are you doing?” he shouts. “Get off!” “Get off?” I kick my way back up onto the platform. “I said get off!” he shouts again. “I won’t!” I say, hoisting, myself up higher onto the cab. My foot slips again and I sink beneath the rooftop, striking my chin hard on the way down. Grasping at the coach’s seams I desperately try to hold on, the toes of my boots burrowing twisted trenches in the dirt road below. My heart lodges in my throat as I lose my grip and swing out again to the opposite side. “Bloody Hell!” I hear the stranger curse. His face appears over the top of the cab seconds later. His eyes are lit like flares. I hang by the tips of my fingers, shocked, staring up at him. I don’t know whether to scream or cry.

Review: Darker Still by Leanna Renee Hieber

Well, lets see how this goes.  I have never written a book review before, not counting those awful dreaded ones yo write in high school.  YUK!
Darker Still: A Magic Most Foul is a wonderful book to me.  I love the mix of magic and the way people carried themselves in the 1800's.  I wouldn't call this steam-punk as it didn't have that feel to me.  It's more Victorian with magic.
The magic in this book is very reminiscent of the story of Dorian Gray.  Such a fantastic idea by the amazing Oscar Wilde.   A gentleman's portrait that catches his youth so he may live forever, less he were to ever gaze upon it.  I also see some Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.
The book is written in a diary format.  While this isn't my favorite way to read a book, I do appreciate that I know that it is always written in the 1st person.  The writer of the diary is Natalie Stewart, an almost 18 year old who, after a tragic event as a youth, is mute.  Her father is a curator at the museum that wins the bid to house the painting of Lord Denbury.  Mrs. Northe, a lady who is intrigued by the painting and helps the museum get the painting, becomes Natalie's mentor.  Together they figure out the magic of the painting and how to "solve" it.
The premise behind the painting is that the young Lord Denbury was tricked by evil and his portrait was painted thus catching his soul within, while the evil took possession of his body. Can you see how I get the Dorian Gray/Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde?   I'm not the only one who thinks this, it's written everywhere.
When it comes to romance, it's muh.  It's not really there.  Yes, it's written but I never felt the tension.  It was also inevitable that our young Natalie would fall for the Lord.  That's just the way YA goes.  I just wish it could have been UNpredictable.
     So, my conclusion:
     Would I recommend this? Absolutely
Would I read it again? No, but that's just because I don't read books more then once.
How do I rate this? 4 stars
Am I going to continue the series? You betcha!

Friday's Freebie: You choose the book.

Hey everyone.

I hope everyone had a great week!  I've been stuck inside due to the crazy winter that we are having here in Kentucky.  So much winter!  It's crazy how much this one is different from the last one.  In one night, it rained for close to four hours, which turned to ice, then it snowed all night long afterwards.  Then the night before last we had more ice and yesterday we had more snow.   Needless to say, my poor Betsey has been sitting in the drive way, just wondering what she done wrong because she hasn't been started/drove since Sunday.

So to help ease your pain from this crazy weather I'm offering a book givaway.  There are 4 books, and you get to pick which book you want.  These are new, unread books.  It's a simple one entry giveaway.  You don't have to be following me but it's always nice if you were.  :)

Below the picture you will find the links to each books Amazon page so you can read up on them and help you make your decision.  (Click on the book title)
This will run till 11:59 pm CST Sunday.

Manic Monday

So January has come and gone, along with my first giveaway of the year.  The winner has been emailed, just waiting for her reply.

Did you watch the Super Bowl?  Are you like me and just watch it for the commercials and half-time?  I had a few favorite commercials.  I have to say my favorites are from the same company.  While Budweiser did pull at my heart strings, I have to say my inner fan girl won over with the Jaguar commercials. :)  Love those BBB's. British Bad Boy's.

They are pretty awesome. :D

Friday's Freebie & Giveaway

So for today I'm doing a freebie. My giveaway, ends tonight at midnight. But I'm also listing a free book from Amazon that I'm adding to my kindle. Who doesn't love free things, especially books!!! Next week I will be giving away a book. The week after that who knows! So I'm choosing Flame Moon by K.J. Jackson. I'm sure you can tell just by looking at the cover why I picked it. It's a book that I would love to have on my bookshelf if I ever got it in print.
~ Flame Moon is a stand-alone story, but also Book 1 of the Flame Moon series. Triple Infinity and Flux Flame (Books 2 & 3) are now out! ~
The Flame Moon series is intended for mature audiences--you know who you are. Why? Lots of action (violence), no cut-aways (sexual situations), and language that isn't so polite (swearing). Self-select accordingly, please.
Skye Walters thought waking up on the side of a river with no memory was her biggest problem. She had no idea that the man who had saved her from drowning, the man she now depended on, Aiden, was more than mere mortal. A warrior of ancient.
No memory, nowhere to go, Skye stays in the mountain town, only to discover she herself, has unexplained powers. Her life, her destiny, are soon out of her control, as are her feelings for Aiden. The deeper Skye gets sucked into Aiden's hidden world, the more the past, and who she really is, threatens her future, her love, her sanity.

For the Giveaway.

Throw Back Thursday: Anita Blake Vampire Hunter series *Giveaway*

It's not hard for me to say what books are my favorite when someone asks me.  It's been the same since 2008/2009 when I was introduced to them.  Some might have heard of it and some might not have. It's not everyone's cup of tea.
It's the Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter series by Laurell K Hamilton. There are a total of 22 books in the series now, along with a few novellas. The easiest that I can sum up this series is Anita is a necromancer(can control the dead).  She raises people from the dead for families and court orders.  There are vampires and were's of all kinds, I'm talking rats, leopards, lions, and of course wolfs. I would classify this series as erotic paranormal. I DO NOT suggest anyone under the age of 18 to read these.  These are VERY steamy and VERY graphic.  Sadly, I haven't got to read any of the new books since I finished Bullet.  I have Hit List, Kiss the Dead and Affliction left.  I don't own any of the books past Blood Noir however because when they were released it was in hardback and I own them all in paperback, yes, my series have to match.  All hardback or all paperback, it can't be both.  OCD much??

My favorite book from the series is Micah.  I don't want to go into detail about this book because I can give to much away.  I think that's why I don't do reviews on books because I don't know how to keep my mouth shut.  LOL

"RAISING THE DEAD IS EASY. LOVE IS HARD..."
There are lots of reasons to raise the dead—some private, some public, In this case, the feds have a witness who died before he could speak on the record. They want him raised so his testimony can be taken. So here I am, on a plane to Philadelphia, flying off to do my job.
But I'm not alone. Micah is with me. Micah, head of the St. Louis wereleopard pard. King to my Queen. The only one of my lovers who can stir my blood with just a glance from his chartreuse cat's eyes. I was happy to have him at my side.
Until he mentioned that this will be our first time alone together. No Master Vampire. No Alpha Werewolf. Just me and Micah. And all my fears and doubts...

I started this series when I was in cosmetology school.  One of the other students was telling me about it and started letting me read her copies.  I eventually finished school before I could finish the series, so I actually found a friend on FB who gave me her copies of the series to keep.  Her series stopped at Blood Noir, but it was in hardback.  I read it anyways and it is still on my bookshelf, just not in line with the rest of the series.  It's sitting all by it's lonesome on another shelf with stand alone books and books from my college classes.

So how do I feel about this series????

That pretty much sums it up.  :)

Side note:  I looked for another blog that has done Throwback Thursday but didn't find one, if I simply over looked it and you know where one is PLEASE leave a comment on this post or visit the Facebook page and tell us on there.

Waiting on Wednesday: Cress (The Lunar Chronicles Series) by Marissa Meyer

There is just something about a well put together cover.  And this one has it.  The colors, the font, the contrast; you could say that it's got me on it's hook.  But then again, the other two books in this series are beautiful as well.

Cress
The Lunar Chronicles Series, #3
Release date: February 4, 2014
Pre-Order information
Barnes & Noble   $16.35
Amazon               $16.04

In this third book in Marissa Meyer's bestselling Lunar Chronicles series, Cinder and Captain Thorne are fugitives on the run, now with Scarlet and Wolf in tow. Together, they’re plotting to overthrow Queen Levana and prevent her army from invading Earth.
Their best hope lies with Cress, a girl trapped on a satellite since childhood who’s only ever had her netscreens as company. All that screen time has made Cress an excellent hacker. Unfortunately, she’s being forced to work for Queen Levana, and she’s just received orders to track down Cinder and her handsome accomplice.
When a daring rescue of Cress goes awry, the group is splintered. Cress finally has her freedom, but it comes at a higher price than she’d ever expected. Meanwhile, Queen Levana will let nothing prevent her marriage to Emperor Kai, especially the cyborg mechanic. Cress, Scarlet, and Cinder may not have signed up to save the world, but they may be the only hope the world has.

But when her life becomes intertwined with the handsome Prince Kai’s, she suddenly finds herself at the center of an intergalactic struggle, and a forbidden attraction. Caught between duty and freedom, loyalty and betrayal, she must uncover secrets about her past in order to protect her world’s future.
Book #2

Cinder is back and trying to break out of prison—even though she’ll be the Commonwealth’s most wanted fugitive if she does—in this second installment from Marissa Meyer.

Halfway around the world, Scarlet Benoit’s grandmother is missing. It turns out there are many things Scarlet doesn't know about her grandmother, or the grave danger she has lived in her whole life. When Scarlet encounters Wolf, a street fighter who may have information as to her grandmother's whereabouts, she is loath to trust this stranger, but is inexplicably drawn to him, and he to her. As Scarlet and Wolf unravel one mystery, they encounter another when they meet Cinder. Now, all of them must stay one step ahead of the vicious Lunar Queen Levana.

Cover Reveal: Never Been Ready by J.L. Berg & Giveaway

So I found this pretty awesome author on Facebook.  I'm pretty excited that I have her in my kindle now.  I suggest that you get her in yours as well.  :)
Today's post is the cover reveal of her newest book Never Been Ready.  I can't wait to read this one.  It is the second book of a series.  The first one is When You're Ready.  If you would like to look at it for a minute, you can check it out on GoodReads.  Don't worry, it opens into a new window.
To start off I thought I would get you familiar with J.L.

J.L. Berg is a California native living in the South.  She’s married to her high school sweetheart and they have two beautiful girls that drive them batty on a daily basis.  When she’s not writing, you will most likely find her curled up with her iPad reading, in a yoga studio or devouring anything chocolate.

Website: www.jlberg.com
Twitter: @authorjlberg

So how about that book??

Yeah, go ahead and click on it for a new window of the full size.  It's ok, I'll wait.  :)

So this is what it says on the back.

Leah Morgan was done with men. After barely surviving a horrendous childhood, and a boyfriend who bailed when things got rough, Leah had given up on love. Then she met him, Hollywood’s new golden boy who suddenly had eyes only for her. She tried to convince herself that one night couldn’t hurt, but after six months, the memories of his mesmerizing gaze and searing touch still invaded her every thought. Declan James had just one rule when it came to women. Keep it simple, and never linger. That all changed the moment he met Leah. Even across a crowded bar, he could tell she was different. Sweet, with just the right amount of sass, she made him break his golden rule and now he couldn’t walk away. When casual becomes anything but, and emotions run deep, will Leah and Declan fight their fears, or let old insecurities tear them apart? When Declan’s past comes roaring back in a way neither of them could have expected, will they stand united or be torn apart by the challenges that lie ahead? It was only supposed to be one night, but only forever will do.

Sounds pretty great, doesn't it.....yeah, I thought so too!   And what kind of book reveal isn't complete without a little teaser from said book.

"So, when exactly do I get my striptease?" I asked.

"Well, that's up to you, Hotshot."
"Hotshot?"
"Yep. Cocky attitude, arrogant disposition, and sexy as fuck--it's a good nickname."
"All right, so what are your terms, Leah?"
I fought back the urge to touch her. Stuffing my hands into my pockets, I paced the room in a vain attempt at keeping myself from just saying, Fuck it, and pinning her against the wall before she could lay down any terms or requirements. Because whatever she was about to say, I was going to agree. She didn't know it, but she had my balls in her perfect little hands, and I was at her fucking mercy. I both hated and wanted her at the same time. She made me feel out of control and weak with need. I couldn't stop the pursuit, and I couldn't walk away.
"I will not be an easy fuck whenever you get too lazy to find a new bimbo for the evening. I will not allow you in my bed, wondering where you've been and what kind of sloppy seconds I'm getting," she declared.
Then, she said the one thing I never wanted to hear.
"I want to be exclusive with you--for however long we decide to do this. I don't care about labels or dates. You don't have to take me out to dinner, bring me flowers, or buy me anniversary presents. The only thing I ask is that, for the time we are together, you are mine."
"Yes," I answered immediately, surprising us both.
"Yes? That's it? No counteroffer? No freak-out or temper tantrum, Declan?"
"No, Leah, no temper tantrum. Just one request."
I joined her on the sofa. My thigh brushed hers, and I heard her breath falter.
"And what's that, Hotshot?"
"Make it two," I amended. "First, the same rules apply to you. While we're together, for however long, you're mine, Leah," I purred against her ear.
Her eyes widened, and her breath became ragged, giving me a quick sense of satisfaction because I'd broken through her calm and collected exterior.
"And second?" she asked timidly.
"Don't fucking call me Hotshot."
She visibly relaxed and snorted out a laugh before saying, "So not happening, Hotshot."

*Squuueeeee* SO looking forward to this.

Now lastly. The giveaway.

Release Day - {Recalled} by Cambria Hebert & Giveaway

It's finally here!!!!  I'm beyond excited about this.  I have been waiting for this book since the first time she talked about it on her Facebook.  I just know it's going to be epic.    If you remember, I did a Cover reveal back in January. Click here if you want to refresh your memory.  You will also note in that post how pumped I was. :)  Cambria is an amazing down to earth author who loves to connect with her readers.  She operates her Facebook, not some assistant!

Side Note:  The punctuation when I speak of Cambria or one of her books increases too!!!!!

Now for what you came for.  Just to refresh your memory here is the cover and sleeve.

*le sigh*  It's just pure perfection!  I want them both on my walls here at the humble abode.  :)

Now for a blurb and an excerpt, in that order.
Love or Death? A simple question really. The choice seems obvious. But. What if you never knew love, what if your life was spent just trying to survive? What if you knew your fate before you were fully grown?
And then you died.
And you were given another chance. A better chance.
This new life depended upon one thing: your job. And so you agreed. You thought it would be simple. You thought it would be cut and dry.
It never is.
And now you are left holding the fate of someone else in the palm of your hand and you have to make the ultimate choice.
Love or Death?

“Proposition - An offer of a private bargain. A plan suggested for acceptance; a proposal.”

“Opportunity would be abundant and you could create a whole new identity for yourself.”
I was tempted sure, but still something kept me from accepting right away. “What’s the catch?”
There was always a catch.
“In return for your life, your new and improved life, you would come and work for me.”
“Doing what?”
“You will be an Escort.”
On the streets another name for Escort was a prostitute. “I don’t think I would look good in a dress and heels.”
“You joke. You’re funny.” Mr. Burns said, smiling. “Not that kind of Escort. This is more exclusive. More important.”
“So what exactly will I be Escorting?” I asked more confused than before.

Now for the absolute most amazing, legendary moment EVER!

 ONLY $.99!!!
This is for a limited time so make sure you grab it.  It will go back up to $2.99, which is still a kick butt price!!!  You can get it on Amazon and BN and Smashwords

I'm going to leave you with a few little things, like a GIVEAWAY, a surprise for the blog, and a little information on the fantastic Cambria.

Giveaway time!!!!!!  I'm giving away one ecopy of Recalled!!!  I'm going to make it easy and simple.  Everyone gets one free entry.  You can get one extra entry by following my blog. She loves a caramel latte, hates math and is afraid of chickens (yes, chickens). She went to college for a bachelor’s degree, couldn’t pick a major and ended up with a degree in cosmetology. So rest assured her characters will always have good hair. She currently lives in Pennsylvania where she is plotting her next book. Waiting on Wednesday: Kiss The Dead by Laurell K Hamilton

****"Waiting on Wednesday" is a weekly event hosted by Jill at the Breaking The Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.****

Kiss The Dead by Laurell K. Hamilton
(Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter, Book 21)
Release Date: June 5, 2012

When a fifteen-year-old girl is abducted by vampires, it’s up to U.S. Marshal Anita Blake to find her. And when she does, she’s faced with something she’s never seen before: a terrifyingly ordinary group of people—kids, grandparents, soccer moms—all recently turned and willing to die to avoid serving a master. And where there’s one martyr, there will be more…

But even vampires have monsters that they’re afraid of. And Anita is one of them…

Why I can't wait:  Laurell never disappoints me with her Anita Blake novels.  I have read all of them of course and with the exception of Hit List, I own them all too.  I'm waiting for Hit List to be in paperback.  I'm a little OCD when it comes to my books, if it's a series, they all have to be paperback or hardcover, there can't be both.

Side note: Please be advised that the Anita Blake series is for ADULTS.  There is a lot of adult content.
