The Orphan and The Thief Blast

orphan tour

The Orphan and the Thief An adventure that will keep you and your kids spellbound.
Toad thought it’d be easy to steal from Mr. Edward P. Owl. Unfortunately for Toad, he isn’t the best of thieves. Caught in the act, he’s in more trouble than ever before. Now to save his hide, Toad must track down five rare potion ingredients for Mr. Owl. Or else. All Melena Snead wants is her family back, but after the Miggens Street Fire, that isn’t very likely. Orphaned and miserable, forced to work in an apothecary, she’s determined to find Milo, her missing brother. No matter what. When Melena finds Toad ransacking her apothecary, Toad gets a nasty shock: apothecaries don’t carry Mr. Owl’s ingredients. Luckily, Melena’s willing to help, for a price. With Melena’s pet Spit-Fire dragon and Toad’s enchanted talking beer mug, they embark on a fantastical journey, traveling the country in search of the potion ingredients. But can they gather all of them in time, what with monsters, pirates, and axe-wielding thieves? And if they do, is there an even greater danger waiting for them at the end?
orphan thiefExcerpt: Panicking, Toad rushed, “Come on, Gent. There’s gotta be somethin’ that ya want! My prices are reasonable!” “The price is your life,” Mr. Owl stated, gently placing the dragon statue upon the desk. Mr. Ogg stopped again, his ham-sized hands falling back to his sides. Toad fell silent, too stunned to dare hope that he wasn’t about to be killed. “Let me explain how this will work, Mr. Toad. If tonight was like any other night I would happily see your neck snapped and toss you out like the bit of filth that you are.” He gave a heavy sigh. “However, the Hickory Guard have become annoyingly tedious ever since that upstart became Captain.” “Ya mean Dowell?” asked Toad. “The man has become so inflated with self importance that he’s actually having me followed. Can you imagine? Me?” “That’s … awful?” said Toad awkwardly, unsure how to respond. “So, you will forgive me for not wanting to waste Mr. Ogg’s talents on you with so little preplanning.” He gave the window a casual glance. “I’m sure a guard is stationed outside somewhere and disposing of your body without detection will be troublesome to say the least.” “Pardon me, sir,” Mr. Ogg interrupted, “but it would be no trouble.” “Ah, Mr. Ogg! How I like you!” Mr. Owl cheered. “Always ready to break a neck. Good fellow!” “We can stash him in one of the upstairs rooms,” Mr. Ogg continued in his deep, ocean floor voice. “I’ll make sure he won’t bleed.” “But a body, even in such a large house, will be difficult to hide if Dowell decides to search the place, as he has been hinting at for the last fortnight. No, no, my man. We cannot afford the risk of housing him here.” Toad sat still in his chair. It wasn’t every day that his own murder was discussed in such a light, conversational manner.
OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAM.L LeGette: Melissa Lee LeGette has been writing seriously since she was a teen. She loves an old world vibe with a magical twist, and she puts her full focus on creating believable characters--even if they happen to be a talking beer mug. Her books are targeted for children and teens, but have been enjoyed by adults of all ages. She lives in Georgia where she helps run a family farm, so her nails are a fright.
Praise: [LeGette is] able to twist her unique fairy-tales to fit the imagination of children and the attention of adults. Five stars ... The Orphan and the Thief is definitely worth reading! -- Abigail / Goodreads Review M.L. Legette conjures up a captivating magical tale in The Orphan and the Thief. I loved this story and I could not put my Kindle down until I finished the last page. This charming story is so good that it may very well become a classic. -- Karen Dowdall, Author of Delphi Altair: Strange Beginnings

She follows the thief into the world of the unknown, compelled not only by her quest but by the allure of the stranger—Urlick Babbit—who harbors secrets of his own. Together, they endure deadly Vapours and criminal-infested woods in pursuit of the same goal, only to discover the miracle machine they hoped would solve their problems may in fact be their biggest problem of all. When darkness is safer than light…
Praise “One of the most inventive story worlds I’ve read in years…” Donald Maass, Author of Writing the Breakout Novel, Writing 21st Century Fiction, and The Fire in Fiction
“Such an engaging story featuring witty dialogue, gripping action scenes and a romance that will make your heart melt!” Laurel May
“I liked the mix of reminders I got from authors like Mervyn Peake, L.Frank Baum and Ray Bradbury. I'm sure that every reader will find shades of other famous writers, including or excluding these three.” Richard L. Bunning
“Eyelet and Urlick, the two main characters... There's so much to love! They are like salt and pepper: totally different, spicy, argumentative, and brilliantly smart.” Rosemary Danielis
Excerpt From Lumière:
“Wait!” I shout, surging forward, shouldering my way through the crowd. I fight my way to the front and pound on the doors of the carriage. “Please!” I shout. “I need to speak to you!” But the stranger doesn’t hear. He brings his whip down hard over his horse’s back and the carriage leaps forward, parting the angry crowd like soil in a furrowed field. “Wait!” I hoist my skirts and chase after the carriage. “Please!” I shout. “Please! Wait!” A second crack of the whip and the carriage moves faster. I race on, struggling to keep up to its side. If I lose sight of the carriage, I’ve lost everything. All hope of ever leading a normal life. I can’t let that happen. Won’t let that happen. He will not take my father’s machine. “Please, I beg you, stop the coach!” I lunge, throwing myself at the back of the coach, barely catching a toe on the edge of the running boards, embedding my nails into the carriage’s seams. The carriage bursts forward through the streets of Gears, the city fast becoming a memory. “Stop!” I plead as my boot slips from the running boards. I swing out to one side and dangle by one arm. The stranger at the mount turns his head. “What are you doing?” he shouts. “Get off!” “Get off?” I kick my way back up onto the platform. “I said get off!” he shouts again. “I won’t!” I say, hoisting, myself up higher onto the cab. My foot slips again and I sink beneath the rooftop, striking my chin hard on the way down. Grasping at the coach’s seams I desperately try to hold on, the toes of my boots burrowing twisted trenches in the dirt road below. My heart lodges in my throat as I lose my grip and swing out again to the opposite side. “Bloody Hell!” I hear the stranger curse. His face appears over the top of the cab seconds later. His eyes are lit like flares. I hang by the tips of my fingers, shocked, staring up at him. I don’t know whether to scream or cry.

Review: Darker Still by Leanna Renee Hieber

Well, lets see how this goes.  I have never written a book review before, not counting those awful dreaded ones yo write in high school.  YUK!
Darker Still: A Magic Most Foul is a wonderful book to me.  I love the mix of magic and the way people carried themselves in the 1800's.  I wouldn't call this steam-punk as it didn't have that feel to me.  It's more Victorian with magic.
The magic in this book is very reminiscent of the story of Dorian Gray.  Such a fantastic idea by the amazing Oscar Wilde.   A gentleman's portrait that catches his youth so he may live forever, less he were to ever gaze upon it.  I also see some Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.
The book is written in a diary format.  While this isn't my favorite way to read a book, I do appreciate that I know that it is always written in the 1st person.  The writer of the diary is Natalie Stewart, an almost 18 year old who, after a tragic event as a youth, is mute.  Her father is a curator at the museum that wins the bid to house the painting of Lord Denbury.  Mrs. Northe, a lady who is intrigued by the painting and helps the museum get the painting, becomes Natalie's mentor.  Together they figure out the magic of the painting and how to "solve" it.
The premise behind the painting is that the young Lord Denbury was tricked by evil and his portrait was painted thus catching his soul within, while the evil took possession of his body. Can you see how I get the Dorian Gray/Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde?   I'm not the only one who thinks this, it's written everywhere.
When it comes to romance, it's muh.  It's not really there.  Yes, it's written but I never felt the tension.  It was also inevitable that our young Natalie would fall for the Lord.  That's just the way YA goes.  I just wish it could have been UNpredictable.
     So, my conclusion:
     Would I recommend this? Absolutely
Would I read it again? No, but that's just because I don't read books more then once.
How do I rate this? 4 stars
Am I going to continue the series? You betcha!

Friday's Freebie: You choose the book.

Hey everyone.

I hope everyone had a great week!  I've been stuck inside due to the crazy winter that we are having here in Kentucky.  So much winter!  It's crazy how much this one is different from the last one.  In one night, it rained for close to four hours, which turned to ice, then it snowed all night long afterwards.  Then the night before last we had more ice and yesterday we had more snow.   Needless to say, my poor Betsey has been sitting in the drive way, just wondering what she done wrong because she hasn't been started/drove since Sunday.

So to help ease your pain from this crazy weather I'm offering a book givaway.  There are 4 books, and you get to pick which book you want.  These are new, unread books.  It's a simple one entry giveaway.  You don't have to be following me but it's always nice if you were.  :)

Below the picture you will find the links to each books Amazon page so you can read up on them and help you make your decision.  (Click on the book title)
This will run till 11:59 pm CST Sunday.

I do what I want!

I've been known to go a little over board on things sometimes.  For instance, when I became an independent contractor cosmetologist I went overboard and dove head first into the industry.  I bought all the different gadgets with out fielding my audience yet to see if it would be a service that they would appreciate and pay for.  The one thing that I go over board on is my fan girling.  LOL  When I find a character and/or actor I go to the extreme.  I become a little 9th grade girl who her Senior crush just talked too.  I am a blubbering idiot.  I imagine I look something like this.
I haven't got to meet any actors/actresses.  I've meet authors before and I have acted just like above. Think about it.  I'm meeting the person who thought of my favorite characters and their stories.  It makes me pick their brains.  :)

So you might be wondering who my latest fangirl moments have been.  It involves a Frost Giant, a vampire, and a hybrid.  :)  Enjoy!

Teaser Tuesday

Welcome to the first Teaser Tuesday of February.  I can't believe that it's February already.  I must be honest.  I haven't been able to read that much.  With Annabelle taking up most of my time and the fact that she is reluctant to being laid down when she sleeps makes it pretty impossible to hold a book and be able to turn the pages as well.  But what I have been able to read has been is from Darker Still, A Novel of Magic Most Foul by Leanna Renee Hieber.  I have been reading this book for almost a year now.  LOL  I got it at Dragon Con in 2012 when I was introduced to the author.  I only read about 10 pages when I received it then, then life happened and wasn't able to pick it back up and finish it.  I finally pulled it back off the shelf when Annabelle was born thinking that I would be able to finish it.  I've been able to get ten more pages read.  I'm setting a goal to have this book finished by Valentines!

With that being said, here are you a few sentences from page 194.
Shaking his head, he stated, "I cannot allow you to undertake such rish on my account, to descend into the very depths of Hell itself."
"It's not Hell, it's the Five Points.  Though I have heard the two equated."

Manic Monday

So January has come and gone, along with my first giveaway of the year.  The winner has been emailed, just waiting for her reply.

Did you watch the Super Bowl?  Are you like me and just watch it for the commercials and half-time?  I had a few favorite commercials.  I have to say my favorites are from the same company.  While Budweiser did pull at my heart strings, I have to say my inner fan girl won over with the Jaguar commercials. :)  Love those BBB's. British Bad Boy's.

They are pretty awesome. :D

What were your favorite highlights from the Super Bowl?
